This category has a fitment problem it does not admit to. Search any listing and you will find the word universal. Search the same listings for a number — a gap width, a length, a depth — and you will almost always find nothing.
We went through every seat gap product on this site looking for a published fitment range. One has one. That is the honest state of the category, and it is why the sixty seconds this page asks for is worth more than any amount of reading reviews.
The measurement, step by step
- Slide the driver's seat to the position you actually drive in. Measuring with the seat all the way back gives you the wrong number, because that is not where the seat lives.
- Look down the gap between the outer wall of the center console and the side of the seat cushion.
- Put a ruler across the opening at the widest point — for most cars that is roughly a third of the way back from the front edge of the cushion.
- Read the width in inches and write it down.
- Now measure the depth: from the top of the opening down to where the gap narrows or the seat rail starts. A deep gap needs a product with a body rather than a flap.
- Repeat on the passenger side. Consoles are rarely symmetric and the two sides are often different.

#1 · Knowing before you buy whether it fits

The only gap filler here that publishes the gap width it is designed for — 0.2" to 1.2". Everything else in the category says "universal", which is not a measurement.
Go and measure your gap now, with a ruler, at the widest point. If it is over 1.2" this product will sag into it, and no amount of "universal" in a listing changes that.
A single-pack is a deliberate choice: the driver's side gap is the one that swallows things. The passenger side rarely earns a second unit.
Leather here means the outer skin. The structure that holds the shape is the seam and the internal panel, and no maker in this category publishes what that is.

- Box form rather than a flat wedge, so it stores as well as blocks
- Single unit — you buy one for the side that needs it

The cup position on these is narrow. It is a coffee-cup or can slot, not somewhere a 40 oz tumbler is going.
The maker does not publish the cup diameter, which is exactly the number you need. If you are trying to house a big bottle, buy a proper cup holder expander instead — we cover the sizes that actually fit.

Two units is the right default if your car has a console gap on both sides, which most do — the passenger one collects everything a passenger drops.

The retention question, which fitment does not answer
A product can fit your gap perfectly and still fail, because fit and retention are different things. If your filler is held by friction alone, every seat adjustment breaks the wedge and you re-seat it. Products that thread onto the seat belt slot move with the seat instead. Check which one you are buying before you check the width.
One thing that is not a fitment question
Nothing you put beside the seat should sit over a seat belt buckle or interfere with the path of the belt. That is not about whether it fits — it is a safety item, and if a product fouls the buckle it comes out regardless of how well it blocks the gap. How we picked these
One product per width band where possible, and the product that publishes a range at the top. Every figure comes from the maker's own listing and is cited on the card. We have not fitted any of these and cannot tell you how one feels — only what its maker says it covers.
