The mistake almost everyone makes
Buying by compartment count. Six compartments sounds like organization and usually means six bays that are each too narrow for a box of wipes. What you want is two or three bays wide enough to take a real object, plus the ability to collapse the dividers on the week you buy a case of water.
The second mistake is buying for the biggest load you can imagine rather than the load you actually carry. A 105 L organizer takes most of a mid-size cargo floor and only holds its shape when full — which, for most people, is four times a year.
Anchoring it so it stays where you put it
Almost every SUV has D-ring tie-downs in the corners of the cargo floor. Almost nobody uses them. Every organizer on this page ships with adjustable straps; running one strap to a tie-down turns a box that slides into a box that does not, and it takes about thirty seconds. If your trunk has a hard plastic tray rather than carpet, this is not optional — non-slip material is designed against carpet fiber and does very little against a molded liner.
