The console bin is the most-used storage in a car and the least organized, and the reason is the same as the glove box: it is a single container with one surface. Everything you drop into it lands on the same layer, and after a month the bottom third is a place objects go to be forgotten.
The fix is a shelf, not a tidy-up
You can empty a console bin and it will be back to the same state in three weeks, because nothing about the geometry changed. Adding a shelf changes the geometry permanently: two shallow spaces instead of one deep one, and neither of them deep enough to lose something in.
Vehicle-specific molded dividers do this properly because they match the tub's shape, so nothing slides and nothing rattles. A universal tray that floats inside the bin is a smaller bin inside a bigger bin, plus a new noise.

#1 · 4Runner owners who want it to look factory
Vehicle OCD Console Divider, Tray & Glove Box Organizer — Toyota 4Runner (2010–2024)
Vehicle OCD
A molded set cut for one vehicle and one console. It is the opposite trade to a universal caddy: zero flexibility, perfect fit.
Vehicle-specific inserts win on the one axis universal organizers cannot touch: they match the interior shape exactly, so nothing rattles and nothing slides.
The cost is obvious — sell the car and the parts are worthless to you. Price them as consumables tied to the vehicle, not as accessories you keep.
Check the year range against your own model year before ordering. 2010–2024 is a long run and Toyota changed the console inside it.
What works
- Cut for one console, so the fit is exact
- Covers the glove box as well as the console
- Tool-free assembly
What does not
- Worthless if you change vehicle
- Long model-year range means you must verify your own year
- Plastic, and it looks like plastic if your console is trimmed
Skip this if
Skip it if you do not drive a 4Runner. There is no partial credit on a molded part.

#2 · The same Tacoma job, in matte ABS
JDMCAR Center Console Divider & Glove Box Organizer — Toyota Tacoma (2016–2023)
JDMCAR
Matte-finish ABS cut for the Tacoma console, stated to install with no modification to the vehicle.
Matte matters here. A gloss insert in a matte console catches every reflection through the windshield and reads as an aftermarket part from the driver's seat.
No-modification install means nothing is drilled or cut — the insert is retained by the console's own geometry.
What works
- Matte finish blends with most Toyota interiors
- No modification required
- ABS is rigid, not flexible
What does not
- Single-vehicle
- No tray in this set
- Rigid ABS can rattle if the fit loosens
Skip this if
Skip it if you want the tray as well — the Vehicle OCD set includes one.

#3 · Honda's very deep console
Vehicle OCD Center Console Organizer — Honda Pilot / Ridgeline / Passport
Vehicle OCD
Part SLX130, cut for the Pilot (2016–2022), Ridgeline (2017–2023) and Passport (2019–2023) — three vehicles that share a console bin deep enough to lose a wallet in.
Honda's mid-size console is one of the deepest in the class. Without a shelf the bottom half is a place things go to be forgotten.
Three vehicles on one part is unusual for a molded insert and is only possible because Honda reused the tub.
What works
- Covers three models
- Published part number
- Exact fit
What does not
- No glove box piece listed
- Check your model year
- Vehicle-specific
Skip this if
Skip it if your Honda is outside the listed year ranges.

#4 · Knowing before you buy whether it fits
Leather Seat Gap Filler Organizer, fits 0.2"–1.2" gaps
Generic (premium leather console box)
The only gap filler here that publishes the gap width it is designed for — 0.2" to 1.2". Everything else in the category says "universal", which is not a measurement.
Go and measure your gap now, with a ruler, at the widest point. If it is over 1.2" this product will sag into it, and no amount of "universal" in a listing changes that.
A single-pack is a deliberate choice: the driver's side gap is the one that swallows things. The passenger side rarely earns a second unit.
Leather here means the outer skin. The structure that holds the shape is the seam and the internal panel, and no maker in this category publishes what that is.
What works
- Publishes an actual fitment range, which almost nothing else here does
- Box form rather than a flat wedge, so it stores as well as blocks
- Single unit — you buy one for the side that needs it
What does not
- Useless if your gap is wider than 1.2"
- No published external dimensions for the box itself
- One unit means the passenger gap stays open
Skip this if
Skip it if you have measured a gap wider than 1.2". Buy a wedge-type filler that spans, not a box that drops in.

What belongs on each layer
| Layer | What goes there | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Top | Charging cable, sunglasses cloth, hand sanitizer, parking change, a pen | Reached for weekly or more, and visible from a seated position |
| Bottom | Spare fuses, a torch, a tire gauge, the aux cable you keep in case | Reached for rarely, and fine to lift a tray for |
| Nowhere in the console | Documents, the owner's manual, anything you would hate to lose | Glove box or visor — the console is the highest-churn space in the car |
The phone rule, again
The three things that actually accumulate
- Receipts. They are flat, they slide to the bottom, and they are the single largest volume of anything in most consoles. Give them nowhere to live — put them in the bin at the end of each week instead.
- Cables. Three charging cables for two phones is normal. Keep one good one on the top layer, and put the spares in the glove box.
- Loose change. This is the one thing a console is genuinely good at, provided it has a shallow tray so the coins are not at the bottom of a deep well.
The gap beside it
Half of what belongs in a console ends up beside it instead, down the gap between the console and the seat. Closing that gap is a separate five-minute job and it is worth doing at the same time, because otherwise your newly organized console keeps losing things to the hole next to it.
Matte, not gloss
One practical note if you are buying a molded insert: choose a matte finish. A gloss tray in a matte console catches sunlight through the windshield and throws it into your eye line, and it also announces itself as an aftermarket part in a way a matte one does not.

Everything on this page traces back to one of these. Where a figure could not be sourced, the page says so rather than filling the gap.
